Just when you thought the bad news coming out of Saturday night's chippy Penguins-Bruins tilt in Boston was finished, more trickled out on Sunday in the form of another injury. This one bad news for the Bruins.
Bruins fourward Chris Kelly is the latest name added to the injury toll.
Bruins forward Chris Kelly suffered broken ankle from Dupuis slash last night. Quite a game.— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) December 8, 2013
In a game that was full of cheap shots left and right, it's tough to keep track of when anything might have occured but this is the Internet and a Vine was made of the slash from Dupuis right to Kelly's ankle.
Yup, that would probably do it, a solid two-hand slash right on the ankle.
For what it's worth (you decide the answer to that), Thornton was apologetic after the game. From Joe Haggerty of NESN:
"Listen, I feel awful," he said. "It wasn't my intention for that outcome. I know Brooksie, I've gotten to know him over the past several years. I got to skate with him during the lockout. I texted him a couple of times. I feel awful. It was definitely not what I wanted to see or what anyone wanted to see.
"Obviously I made a mistake. I'm aware of it. I've been told I'll be having a hearing. It's hard for me to say much more than it was not my intention. I felt sick all game."
The Bruins did come back to win the game 3-2 but that feels like a footnote from the game on Saturday, not the lead.
