You might recall a photo from Sunday that came to us from the Ligue Nord-Americaine de Hockey (LNAH) in which Sebastien Courcelles's face was severely cut by a skate. It is easily one of the most horrifying images tied to a hockey game you'll ever see.

If you're easily squeamish, you may want to move on to something else.

Lucky for Courcelles, who plays for the Thetford Mines Isothermic, he received immediate medical attention from paramedics and nurses at the rink. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he received more than 50 stitches to the five-inch gash on his face according to the Courrier Frontenac.

Here's the aftermath, via the Frontenac.

YOUCH. That's some series sewing right there. You'd have to imagine some surgery could be in Courcelles' future as well.

Courcelles is a very lucky man that it was his face and not his neck accidentally cut by the skate of Jean-Michel Bolduc. Lucky being a relative word in this case.

If you haven't seen the initial terrifying photo:

The 29-year-old captain of the Isothermic is in his eighth season in the LNAH, a league renowned as a fighter's paradise. Courcelles is tied for the team's lead with 10 goals this season.

Well wishes have come pouring into Courcelles' Facebook page according to the Frontenac. Bolduc has also reached out to offer an apology to Courcelles, according to an LNAH spokesman, despite the fact that this was a freak accident.
