The New York Rangers just haven't quite been able to get it going this season and the news they received on Tuesday won't help.

One of their best defensemen, Marc Staal, is going to miss some time with a concussion.

It's good news to see the doctors don't believe it to be as serious as previous concussions but as we've seen time and time again, you can never be sure how a concussion recovery is going to go. Sometimes they get worse without much indication. Given that Staal has battled concussion issues in the past doesn't help. You'll recall he took a puck to the face last season that cost him the remainder of his season for all but one playoff game.

Staal left Saturday's game after he took a shot to the jaw from Devils rookie Reid Boucher. The Rangers didn't know exactly what the issue was at first, saying it was an issue with his neck.

Staal is a very important component of the Rangers' defensive corps. He is avearaging 20 minutes per game this season and plays in all situations but more on the PK and in the defensive zone. He has two goals and an assist this season in 30 games.
