The hit in question came in Tuesday night's game at Washington when in the second period Panik was assessed a major penalty for boarding Capitals defenseman Karl Alzner and was given a game misconduct.
Alzner was shaken up after the hit and immediately went to the Capitals bench but he wasn't off the ice long, resuming play just a couple of shifts later with seemingly no ill effects. But it could have been worse, especially given the distance from the boards that Panik hit Alzner from behind.
Panik has one goal and nine assists in 27 games this season playing in a bottom-six role. He will miss Thursday's game against Detroit and Saturday's gameat New Jersey. He also surrenders $7,589.74 in salary.
