When the Windish family attended the Philadelphia Flyers game Thursday night, they did so under the assumption their son Matt, currently serving in the U.S. Army, would be honored as a hometown hero with a special video during the game. He was due to come home just before the holidays.

Unbeknownst to his parents, Mark and Joann, however, Matt was already home, waiting to surprise his family. He did just that, coming fully wrapped in a grown-up sized GI Joe box, sending Joann in particular into hysterics.

The plan was all devised by Matthew's brother, Chris, who worked things out with the Flyers to give his parents a jolt and a memorable homecoming for his brother. Matt was appreciative of his brother's efforts.

From the South Jersey Courier-Post:

“It was amazing,” Matt said. “My heart started beating so fast I really had no clue what was going on. I went blank for a little bit.

“This is probably one of the best things in the whole entire world. This is insanely awesome. I just wish that everyone could get to experience this. I feel very grateful right now.”

Remarkably, Matt returned home almost a week prior, but remained hidden from his parents.

Matt, who is stationed in the Republic of Korea as a wheeled vehicle mechanic, gets to spend the holidays with his parents and now has a memory that will last a lifetime thanks to his brother and the Philadelphia Flyers.
