Even with boards and plexiglass encasing ice rinks at just about ever angle possible, pucks do still make their way into the crowds from time to time and hit people. That hurts all the time.

One such incident happened on Sunday in Washington while the Capitals were busy trying to overcome a 4-1 deficit to the visiting Flyers. One fan near the benches was struck with the puck in the head, a scene that was caught on the CSN Washington cameras and was a bit frightful.

The woman who was hit was being attended to by a Flyers team doctor while she appeared to be out cold in her seat and bleeding from the head.

It didn't look good, a sight you usually don't see on live television. But all's well that ends well I suppose and for the most part, this one looks like it ended well.

The Capitals fan in question, Tricia Drummond, tweeted out a picture on Monday, saying she had five stitches to close the cut. Like any true hockey fan, she said it was totally worth it seeing how the Capitals completed the wild comeback and won in a shootout.

Hockey, where even the fans are tough.
