The Washington Capitals were in Philadelphia on Tuesday night to play the Flyers and if we learned anything from earlier this season, that's a recipe for bad things to happen.

In the second period of what was then a tie game, Capitals rookie, big Tom Wilson came flying from a long distance and crushed Flyers defenseman Brayden Schenn into the boards, immediately drawing a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct.

Schenn was visibly badly hurt, falling to the ice a few times before stopping and receiving help. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game with the ever informative upper-body injury. At least after the game Flyers coach Craig Berube said he didn't think the injury was too serious, so that's good.

While Shcenn's health will be a concern for the Flyers, the talk on Tuesday night was about Wilson's hit. It was delivered with a ton of force and he came from a long way to hammer Schenn.

For their part, Capitals coach Adam Oates and GM George McPhee thought it was a good hit. Honestly.

Chances are they won't be happy with what the league will think about the hit in the coming days. And as you would asume, Berube didn't like the hit as he called it reckless.

In Wilson's defense, Schenn does move just before the hit but that doesn't change the fact that Wilson came flying through the zone on a bee-line right for Schenn in the corner and drives into him with a lot of speed. The end result was hitting a guy on the backside and sending him flying into the boards. The fact that he accelerated into the hit will likely not go over well.

The end result was a hit that looked like one of the worst of the season as a result of the speed and impact of the hit.
