Wednesday was Pittsburgh Penguins forward Deryk Engelland's turn to step up to the NHL Department of Player Safety when he was given a five-game suspension.

Engelland's suspension comes after he delivered a shot to the head of Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader in Saturday's game in Pittsburgh. He connected with Abdelkader in the open ice with a shoulder that ended up catching Abdelkader clean on the chin.

The contributing factors weren't in Engelland's favor as Abdelkader suffered an injury as a result (concussion symptoms) and Engelland had previously been suspended for three games in the past. The result here is a five-game suspension.

Engelland has already missed one game that will count against his suspension total. He'll be eligible to return the first game after Christmas on Dec. 27 in Carolina.
