In the first period of his first game back, Gaborik suffered a broken collarbone and will be out indefinitely, according to the Blue Jackets. Gaborik had played just 2:45 before leaving with the injury. He did record an assist in the game, however.
Gaborik had been out since Nov. 14 with a sprained knee after struggling a bit through his first 17 games this season. The veteran sniper has 12 points in 18 games so far this year.
It has been a year of terrible luck in Columbus after building such momentum last season. The team is still awaiting the return of free agent signee Nathan Horton , who was cleared for contact today. Columbus is also missing reigning Vezina Trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky , who will be out a few more weeks after going down with a groin strain.
For Gaborik, bad luck always seems to find him. Over his 14-year NHL career, injury troubles have followed Gaborik wherever he goes. He has only played one full 82-game season and has missed 10 or more games in six NHL campaigns.
The Blue Jackets have some playoff hope left since they're in the Metropolitan, but losing Gaborik again certainly won't help on top of other injury issues. Rough year in Columbus… again.
