DETROIT -- Chris Chelios always had a tremendous love for the game of hockey. He loved it so much that he found the desire to keep playing until he was nearly 50 years old and leaving only then when the opportunities dried up.

He never quite grew up, never quite lost that youthful exuberance over a very long career. Even in retirement, he still has that little kid in him as he showed following his goal in the second of the alumni games at Comerica Park on Tuesday prior to the Winter Classic between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs.

Chelios came hard down the right side and then beat Leafs goalie Felix Potvin short side up high. It was pretty, just not as pretty as his celebration. From @cjzero:

Feeling the joy, Chelios started skating down the ice as fast as he could and just went for it. The results were pretty sweet. That's a backshoulder slide. Or something. And he held it for a long ways down the ice. Not only does he still have the exuberance of a kid, but apparently he still has the flexibility too.

"Well I hadn't scored in a few years and I didn't really get to play in the last outdoor game so I told myself if I score early enough and the ice was still good I was going to pull off my big move," Chelios said. "Tiger Williams rides his stick, I ride my head."

That's exactly what you hope to see in an alumni game. Well done, Chelli.
