One of the most bizarre goals you will ever see in the game of hockey was scored today in a game between Leksands and Farjestad of the Swedish Hockey League. No joke.

With Farjestad players taking too long to get to the faceoff circle for a draw in Leksands' zone, the impatient linesman decided to drop the puck. There wasn't a Farjestad player within 10 feet of the faceoff dot. Meanwhile, Farjestad goalie Fredrik Pettersson-Wentzel was taking a drink from his water bottle and not paying attention to the faceoff 180 feet away.
Leksands forward Gabriel Karlsson won the draw to himself and decided to take a shot from all the way at his own faceoff dot. With Pettersson-Wentzel putting back his water bottle and his teammates all still standing around, the puck went right past the unaware goalie and into the net. Needless to say, pretty much everyone in the building was stunned.
Despite protests from the Farjestad players, the goal counted and ended up being the only goal Leksands scored in a 5-1 loss.
The goal even caught the TV folks off guard as they were not yet ready for the play, cutting to a shot of the net only after the puck went through. You can see a GIF with additional angles here.
I've never seen anything quite like that and I bet you haven't either, certainly not in the professional ranks. This ought to teach the guys on Farjestad not to dawdle.
