This week has been a treat for fans of great goalie saves and Carter Hutton just put the cherry on top.
On Thursday night in Philly, the Predators goaltender got the start since Devan Dubnyk just joined the team earlier in the day and he found himself hanging on to a 2-1 lead midway through the third period. He ventured behind his own net to handle a dump in by the Flyers when the puck took one of those crazy carooms that usually foil goaltenders.
Wouldn't you know the puck shot right into the slot where Michael Raffl was charging hard for the easy putback. He did his part just fine, getting the shot off and on net despite taking a penalty, but Hutton went into pure desperation mode and came from behind the cage to make one of the most ridiculous save you'll ever see.
Nothing can really do that save justice beyond speechless amazement. The look of his Predator teammates on the bench tells the whole story, they could hardly believe it, being left only to almost laugh. Raffl's reaction was of a much different sort. That told the story too from the opposing view.
The Predators, by the way, won in a shootout. But really, it almost feels like it doesn't matter after seeing a save like that. Do we really have to wait until the end of December to name that the Save of the Year?
