Martin Hanzal was a busy man Thursday night. Check that, Martin Hanzal's stick was busy Thursday night. The big Phoenix Coyotes center injured three different Canucks players on three separate incidents involving cross checks in a five-minute span during the Coyote's 1-0 win over Vancouver.

The first was on Mike Santorelli as Hanzal's stick rode up on the Canucks center and appeared to get him up under the shoulder. Reporters in the arena said Santorelli's arm was in a sling after the game.

The next came when Hanzal delivered a hard crosscheck to Henrik Sedin's torso. Sedin had to go serve a hooking penalty and then received attention on the bench and Sportsnet's Dan Murphy said he was “not moving well” after the game.

The last one may have been the most vicious of the three as Hanzal used his stick to defend himself from a check from David Booth. Hanzal ended up forcefully cross-checking Booth up high, knocking the Canucks forward to the ice. Booth needed some attention from the trainer right away.

Hanzal got a double-minor for high-sticking on Booth, but went unpenalized for his infractions against Santorelli and Sedin. Hanzal did, however, also get tripping and slashing penalties earlier in the game for a hefty eight minutes in the box.

The big Coyotes forward really should be getting at the very least a talking to from the Department of Player Safety. At best, each cross-check was reckless, but there seemed to be intent on at least the last two. It's not often you see a player so prolific in his stick work that he manages to injure three players in a period. It's not exactly something you want to see, either.

UPDATE: Hanzal received a $5,000 fine from the Department of Player Safety for his high-stick on Booth. That's it, apparently.
