The Detroit Red Wings are a lucky bunch this Saturday night after tying the game on a goal that shouldn't have counted. With less than a minute to play in regulation and the Wings trailing by one goal, a strange bounce and some unaware officials contributed to the puck ending up in the Los Angeles Kings' net.

Niklas Kronwall took a shot from the top of the point, but it deflected off a Kings player's stick and high into the air. Then, the puck out of nowhere dropped from the sky, off Kings netminder Jonathan Quick's back and in.

What the referees apparently didn't know is that the puck actually went off the protective netting above the glass before falling back to the ice. The play should have been blown dead. Instead, the Wings tied the game. Kings defenseman Drew Doughty emphatically pointed right away that the puck was in the netting.

Referee Dan O'Halloran was looking at the net and not following the puck. After a brief conference with the other official and linesmen, they counted the goal without asking for a review from the NHL War Room in Toronto.

Why didn't the review it? It wasn't a reviewable play. If the puck going off the netting isn't called on the ice, it can't be called on review. More from Bob McKenzie of TSN.

The Kings were 37 seconds from a win. Instead, the game went to overtime and then a shootout, which the Red Wings won 1-0 to earn a 3-2 victory.
