If Martin Erat is still hoping to be traded by the Washington Capitals, what he did on Sunday night against the Rangers' Brian Boyle won't help his stock.

Late in the second period with the Rangers already up 4-1, the puck was chipped into the Rangers' defensive zone with Erat in pursuit. Boyle lost an edge by the boards and fell, landing right on the puck. Erat fished around for a second, pulled his stick out then decided that the best approach was to jam it out of Boyle's nether regions with force.

Something Boyle has to be thinking today: Thank heavens for cups.

To his credit, Boyle was relatively calm about it after the game.

"He kind of was, like, I didn't mean to," Boyle said (via Dave Lozo, Bleacher Report). "He just probably regretted it after."

Then again, if this gets Erat's trip out of Washington expedited, he might not regret it all that much. Things just haven't gone well for him with the Caps. This season in 41 games he has no goals, 16 assists, and one awfully low blow spear.
