The most questionable snub from Russia's Olympic roster will be headed to Sochi after all. Carolina Hurricanes forward Alexander Semin has been added to Team Russia for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, the Canes confirmed today. Semin will be replacing injured forward Sergei Soin on the roster according to multiple reports.

The Russian staff made waves when it selected rookie Valeri Nichushkin and lesser known KHL players over Semin, a former 40-goal scorer in the NHL. Semin has struggled this season, however, with just 21 points in 36 games and had drawn the ire of head coach Kirk Muller recently.

Semin got his break when Soin, a forward for Dynamo Moscow, suffered a concussion earlier this week, knocking him out of position for a spot on Russia's roster.

Now the former Washington Capitals star will have an opportunity to be reunited with former teammate Alex Ovechkin and play for an Olympic gold medal on home ice. It will be Semin's second trip to the Olympics, as he had two assists in four games for Russia at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.

It's still shocking he wasn't named to the roster initially, but now he'll be headed to Sochi and an already dangerous Russian forward crop adds yet another proven scorer to the fold.
