PHOTOS: Snow storms aren't good for NHL attendance

Snow has left much of the East Coast paralyzed as it fell all day long on Tuesday, leaving anywhere from 6-10 inches in cities like Washington, Philadelphia and New York. And wouldn't you know it that on Tuesday teams in each of those areas were scheduled to play home games.

The Flyers announced that their game against the Hurricanes was postponed because of the snow but the Devils, Capitals and Rangers all went through with hosting their games as scheduled. The result, as to be expected, were some very, very thin crowds.

Verizon Center in Washington is accessible by the Metro (subway) system so a few fans made it to the game but the arena wasn't exactly Rocking the usual Red.

Then there was New Jersey, site of the infamous blizzard game in 1987, which had a very sparse crowd at faceoff.

The Rangers had a better crowd -- though not full -- because people don't drive in New York City unless they have a death wish.

Not that you can blame fans for not showing up. The conditions on the roads are awful everywhere and the snow is forecasted to keep falling throughout the games. Even with the cost of the tickets, trying to drive to the games just doesn't seem worth it, that's why teams will postpone games from time to time in the storms.

And because you can't really talk about a lot of empty seats without mentioning the Florida Panthers (sorry, low blow), they didn't have a lot of fans on hand (by Buffalo's standards, at least) for their game in cold and snowy Buffalo against the Sabres either. That one has some other mitigating factors, though.
