The St. Louis Blues have placed Vladimir Sobotka on injured reserve after the forward sustained a leg injury. He will be reevaluated in four weeks.

Unfortunately for Sobotka, the injury will keep him out of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games where he was due to represent the Czech Republic. The 26-year-old forward would have been an important two-way center for the Czechs, whose roster included some surprising omissions from the roster and is one of the tournament's older teams.

Sobotka has played in 46 games this year and posted 25 points, just four points shy of his career best total. He has been the NHL's best faceoff man this season with a 60.9 percent success rate.

For the Blues, there's no such thing as a good injury, but the fact that this comes so close to the lengthy Olympic break is going to allow Sobotka some quality time to heal without missing many games. He has been a key cog for one of the league's best teams at both ends of the ice.

It's a shame that Sobotka will have to miss the Olympics as it would have been his first appearance in a Winter Games, but at least he'll have a chance to get healthy and try to help the Blues make an honest run this year.
