When the Sabres acquired Matt Moulson in the Thomas Vanek trade, it seemed like a coup for then-GM Darcy Regier as Moulson was very likely to be turned around and dealt at the deadline for even more assets. That doesn't appear like it will be a problem at all for new GM Tim Murray.

While action could be tough on some of the bigger names in this trade deadline speculation because of contracts, interest in Moulson won't be as reserved. In fact, it's already hot and heavy.

As far as rentals go, Moulson is clearly an enticing option. Not only is he productive -- he leads the Sabres with 33 points this season and considering that's Buffalo, it's not bad at all -- but he's relatively cheap with a $3.13 million salary cap hit. It's not surprising in the least a lot of teams are checking in on what it would take to get Moulson.

One little hiccup is that Moulson has missed some time recently with a lower-body injury but he's expected to be back after the Olympic break. For teams that are desperate for offense -- ahem, Kings -- that won't be a detterent at all.

This kind of widespread interest, while not surprising, still must have Murray feeling pretty good about his situation. By having so many potential suitors, Murray has a lot of leverage to try and get the best deal that he can for Moulson.
