The Carolina Hurricanes have three goalies in the picture, which leads to questions about the possibility of Anton Khudobin as trade bait. That conversation ended on Tuesday with a new deal.

Khudobin, signed from Boston before the season, signed a two-year extension with the Hurricanes. He will earn $2 million next season and $2.5 million in 2015-16 for an annual average salary of $2.25 million.

"We are pleased to be able to keep Anton with the Hurricanes," Canes GM Jim Rutherford said. "He has played well this season and signing him helps solidify our team's goaltending situation."

That leaves the Hurricanes with three goalies, along with Justin Peters and Cam Ward. There have been rumors that Ward is available but it may prove difficult for the Canes to move his contract.

Khudobin, 27, has a .927 save percentage and a 13-8-0 record for the Hurricanes this season in 22 appearances. If those are numbers he can keep up, that $2.25 million cap hit could look awfully nice.
