Here's the latest rumors and news

Trade Speculation
4:23 p.m. -- The last deal of the day to get through? Lee Stempniak is bound for the Penguins per Darren Dreger.
3:55 p.m. -- The Jets didn't trade defenseman Mark Stuart, instead they re-signed him to a four-year extension for $10.5 million.
3:39 p.m. -- We have that landing spot for Jaroslav Halak: The Washington Capitals. That's going to sit well in Washington considering the memories of Halak shutting them down in the 2010 playoffs. The return is Washington goalie Michal Neuvirth, who asked for a trade out of Washington earlier this season.
3:36 p.m. -- It sounds like Jaroslav Halak might have been traded after all. John Vogl says one more deal is expected to roll in from the Sabres and its likely the goalie they just acquired for Ryan Miller.
3:20 p.m. -- We have our Thomas Vanek destination. The forward is headed to the Montreal Canadiens per Chris Johnston.
3:20 p.m. -- Multiple reports have David Legwand on his way to Detroit.
3:18 p.m. -- Staying put: Mike Cammalleri. Don't be surprised if the Flames sign him to an extension soon.
3:14 p.m. -- Another goaltender is on the move. Adrian Dater reports that Reto Berra was traded by the Flames to the Avalanche in exchange for a pick.
3:12 p.m. -- Thomas Vanek is on the move! As of yet nobody knows where or for what but he was traded per Arthur Staple.
3:11 p.m. -- One of the big names that did get moved before the deadline is Matt Moulson. John Vogl reports the Sabres shipped him to Minnesota with Cody McCormick for undisclosed picks and Torrey Mitchell.
3:10 p.m. -- Ryan Kesler will remain a Vancouver Canuck. Elliotte Friedman says that after so much speculation, the top player on most teams' board, Kesler was not traded before the deadline. This will be interesting moving forward. He is signed through next season though so this ship hasn't sailed.
3:08 p.m. -- Martin Brodeur was not traded at the deadline. We are still waiting to see what names trickle in after the deadline but Chris Johnston says Brodeur's won't be one of them.
3:02 p.m. -- Our first deal to trickle after the deadline passes is Raphael Diaz being traded from Vancouver to the Rangers for a fifth-round pick. This is the second time in weeks Diaz has been dealt. (Mark Spector)
2:54 p.m. -- The Ducks appeared to set themselves up to land a big forward but Renaud Lavoie says that door has closed. That makes the Dustin Penner move all the more head-scratching.
2:48 p.m. -- The Bruins needed a defenseman to help with their depth and it appears they have it in Andrej Meszaros from the Flyers. That's according to Dan Murphy.
2:45 p.m. -- Is Jack Johnson available in Columbus? Renaud Lavoie says he's getting a lot of interest. For a team that is looking for defensive help though it doesn't quite compute.
2:26 p.m. -- The Blue Jackets are getting the defenseman they wanted. Darren Dreger reports Nick Schultz is on his way from Edmonton to Columbus.
2:25 p.m. -- Jaroslav Halak on the move from the Sabres? It's starting to sound like that won't happen. Chris Johnston says it's trending toward him staying in Buffalo.
2:23 p.m. -- So much for Tim Thomas and Roberto Luongo playing together. The Stars landed Thomas from the Panthers just before the deadline. It was fun while it lasted.
2:21 p.m. -- How are things going on the Matt Moulson front? It's been quiet but Bob McKenzie says the Minnesota Wild are now getting in on the talks.
2:05 p.m. -- The Predators have been quiet but there is still some question surrounding the future of David Legwand. Bob McKenzie says four teams are showing interest: Pittsburgh, Detroit, Anaheim and Florida (tweet says PIT twice, he clarified one should be FLA).
1:55 p.m. -- Tuomo Ruutu is on his way to New Jersey. The Devils landed the Hurricanes' veteran forward per Darren Dreger. They're hoping to get enough from him to make the playoffs this season. Andrei Loktionov is going to Carolina.
1:49 p.m. -- The Penguins have helped to shore up their bottom six, getting Marcel Goc from the Panthers in exchange for a third- and fifth-round pick. That's a solid pickup for the remainder of the season but does it take them out for Ryan kesler? (Nick Kypreos)
1:37 p.m. -- All is quiet on the Martin Brodeur front, which shouldn't come as a surprise. Renaud Lavoie says nothing is in place for the Devils goalie.
1:20 p.m. -- The Kings have their scoring winger. Pierre LeBrun reports the deal is done and Marian Gaborik is now a member of the Kings. Still waiting on the return details, however.
1:19 p.m. -- You can take one team out of the Ryan Kesler mix. Renaud Lavoie says the Flyers are now out of the picture on the Canucks centerman.
1:16 p.m. -- Tuomo Ruutu was mentioned a lot last year as trade bait but didn't move. John Shannon says it looks like it will instead happen this year.
1:09 p.m. -- That Marian Gaborik-to-the-Kings deal is reportedly back on. Bob McKenzie says to help make it happen, the Blue Jackets are considering eating a lot of salary on Gaborik. The Kings have defensemen to send the other way as well.
12:57 p.m. -- How are the Ryan Kesler sweepstakes going? Well according to Renaud Lavoie, they've taken quite a turn. He says the Kings, Red Wings and Wild are the teams in the mix. He then added the Penguins, so they're still there too.
12:50 p.m. -- The Canadiens will be the third team Devan Dubnyk will play for this season as the goalie was traded from Nashville to Montreal. Carey Price must be out for a bit longer in Montreal. (Pierre LeBrun)
12:32 p.m. -- Don't get too excited about the Roberto Luongo-Tim Thomas tag team in Florida. The Panthers are talking with teams about Thomas including the Dallas Stars, per Nick Kypreos.
12:18 p.m. -- It sounds as though Ales Hemsky is finally on the move. Bob McKenzie reports he's an Ottawa Senators in exchange for a third- and a fifth-round draft pick. Also, Pierre LeBrun says the Oilers will eat half of Hemsky's salary for the remainder of the season.
12:12 p.m. -- In an interview on TSN, Brian Burke said the Flames don't have anything imminent right now and he clarified that he has no interest in trading defenseman Ladislav Smid. So that's that.
12:10 p.m. -- Cross Chris Phillips off the trade block as the Senators defenseman has signed a two-year extension to stay in Ottawa. (Bruce Garrioch)
12:08 p.m. -- The Bruins wanted a defenseman so they got one on the waiver wire. They claimed Corey Potter from the Oilers.
12:05 p.m. -- Not a trade but the Sabres got an addition on Wednesday on the waiver wire by picking up Cory Conacher from the Senators.
11:41 a.m. -- Another Oiler who is potentially available is Sam Gagner. Darren Dreger says teams have been contacting Edmonton about possibly landing him before the deadline passes.
11:05 a.m. -- The Panthers might still have a move or two to make today and here's an intriguing name: Marcel Goc. He's a relatively cheap, good two-way center who is a free agent after this season. A lot of teams in the hunt would like to add a guy like him, you'd figure. (Harvey Fialkov)
11:02 a.m. -- This Martin St. Louis talk is getting very real. Bob McKenzie reports talks have "really ramped up" and on the air on TSN McKenzie says a deal is getting very close to done with Ryan Callahan going to Tampa Bay.
10:57 a.m. -- A little backtrack on the Marian Gaborik deal. Michael Russo says it is NOT done yet but the teams are still talking. Wouldn't be a surprise at all if it goes down very soon.
10:55 a.m. -- Rene Bourque is another name that's in the mix today. Renaud Lavoie mentions he has a no-trade clause that allows him to name 10 teams he won't be traded to. Lavoie also says the Isles, Kings and Avs could all be interested.
10:48 a.m. -- We might have our first deal of the day and it could be a big one. Michael Russo reports a deal to send Marian Gaborik from Columbus to the Kings in in place but it's unsure for what yet. It's going to be big though with the Kings at the cap and Gaborik carrying a $7.5 million cap hit.
10:42 a.m. -- What about Paul Stastny in Colorado? The Avalanche reportedly have made a multi-year contract offer. If he doesn't sign the possibility of a trade only rises with him set to be a free agent this summer. (Bob McKenzie)
10:39 a.m. -- The Stars are trying to get back into the playoffs for the first time in years and are once again right on the bubble so they probably aren't looking to move players but that's not stopping them from talking calls on Ray Whitney per Bruce Garrioch.
10:33 a.m. -- Another suitor on Ales Hemsky would be the Phoenix Coyotes according to Craig Morgan. There is a lot of interest in Hemsky, who has supposedly been on the block for years now.
10:30 a.m. -- As said earlier, the Blackhawks will likely remain quiet but smaller deals are possible. One now being rumored surrounds veteran defensive center and faceoff ace Manny Malhotra from Carolina. (Scott Powers)
10:26 a.m. --The Kings still want a scoring winger but Pierre LeBrun says it's not goint to be Thomas Vanek. Matt Moulson, Marian Gaborik and Mike Cammalleri are the options at this point.
10:20 a.m. -- Another name of interest in Vancouver is Alex Edler, who some teams are chasing. The Canucks don't sound like they want to deal the defenseman according to Pierre LeBrun but as always, if the price is right ...
9:50 a.m. -- The Wild didn't work out a deal with the Sabres for Jaroslav Halak but they are still talking about another player. Michael Russo says the Wild are in pursuit of Drew Stafford from the Sabres but his cost could be higher as he's not a rental player and has been playing pretty well.
9:46 a.m. -- It's all relatively quiet on the Thomas Vanek market this morning. Chris Botta says that's a result of the pursuit of Ryan Kesler as a lot of teams are looking at him first.
9:42 a.m. -- All season long Senators GM Bryan Murray has been clear that he would like to add a top-six forward to his team. To that end, Darren Dreger reports they are one of a few teams that are interested in Ales Hemsky from the Oilers.
9:40 a.m. -- The Montreal Canadiens are always looking to get bigger it seems so Nick Kypreos says Lars Eller is being shopped to help them get that size they want.
9:35 a.m. -- So this one is interesting, the Hurricanes have recalled goalie Justin Peters from the AHL. With Anton Khudobin re-signed for two years on Tuesday, this will reignite the Cam Ward speculation. Can they trade him? Seems tough but they sound like they'll try. Either that or this is just to get Peters up before the deadline and they'll carry three goalies the rest of the season.
9:33 a.m. -- The Lightning are asking for a lot if they're going to move Martin St. Louis and it remains to be seen if the Rangers match, but from the sounds of it they probably won't. Larry Brooks says the Lightning want young players and Ryan Callahan. Indeed, that's high.
9:30 a.m. -- The Penguins remain interested in Ryan Kesler. Rob Rossi reports they haven't changed their offer of Brandon Sutter, Simon Despres or Brian Dumoulin and first-round and third-round picks in 2014. The question is if the Canucks are still going to be willing to trade him.
9:20 a.m. -- Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman has remained as clear as he can that the Blackhawks won't be busy at the deadline. There might be another small move like their trade for David Rundblad they made on Tuesday but Ryan Kesler or a backup goalie? Won't happen. (Pierre LeBrun)
9:17 a.m. -- The Rangers and Ryan Callahan supposedly moved a little closer in contract talks on Tuesday but there still isn't a deal and Larry Brooks says both sides have drawn their lines in the sand. In other words, his name isn't out of the trade rumor mill.
9:15 a.m. -- The door on Martin Brodeur moving out of New Jersey still isn't closed. There are differing reprots as to if Brodeur really wants out or not but Pierre LeBrun says he's happy if the Devils trade him or not, it's up to Lou Lamoreill. Nick Kypreos meanwhile says Brodeur actually asked out and the Devils are trying to do that.
9:12 a.m. -- Here's an interesting name that is rumored to be available, young Ducks defenseman Sami Vatanen. He's young, talented on a right-handed defenseman. If he's really up for grabs, there could be good traction on that. (Chris Johnston)
9:08 a.m. -- The Sabres are going to trade Chris Stewart, Jaroslav Halak and Matt Moulson, right? Well that's the goal but John Shannon says it might not happen. Those darn asking prices might drive off suitors.
9:06 a.m. -- The Flames are a team in selling position but how busy will they actually be? Mike Cammalleri seems certain to move and John Shannon says Chris Butler and Lee Stempniak could be available as well.
9 a.m. -- Hey, remember those Martin St. Louis rumors? Well they're back. John Shannon says the Rangers have an offer on the table to the Lightning for St. Louis.
