Mike Modano retired as the most productive American-born player in the history of the NHL in 2011. His 561 goals and 1,374 points, most of which came in a Dallas Stars uniform, are the most by any U.S. born player in the league. Saturday night, with the Stars hosting the Minnesota Wild, Modano's No. 9 was sent to the rafters at the American Airlines Center.

Modano was joined by his family and many former Stars teammates including many of those that were part of the 1999 Stanley Cup champion team.

The superstar sniper, who was the first overall pick of the then Minnesota North Stars in 1988, holds most of the club's major offensive records. He notched the only 50-goal season of his career in the club's first season in Dallas and endeared himself to the new fan base rather quickly.

It was a spectacular event put on by the Stars led by broadcasters Ralph Strangis and Daryl Reaugh. Many shared glowing remarks of the former superstar player who appeared genuinely touched and became emotional many times throughout the night.

Also on hand to help celebrate Modano were several Dallas sports legends including Cowboys greats Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach and Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki, among others.

The Stars also majorly brought it with their video tribute, which you can enjoy right here.

Modano is unquestionably one of the greatest Americans to play the game, and was one of the best players of his era as well. Though he was probably overshadowed in a non-traditional market compared to some of the other greats of his prime years, there's no question Modano was a special talent that doesn't come around very often.
