Matt Stajan on leave from Flames after death of newborn son

Matt Stajan has been out of the lineup for the past four games for the Calgary Flames and no reason was given for his absence until Sunday. The Flames announced the tragic reason why on Sunday; Matt and his wife Katie Stajan have been grieving the loss of their baby boy, Emerson. He passed shortly after his birth on Monday.

Stajan is going to be out indefinitely. The Flames shared the feelings of everybody in their statement.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Katie and Matt at this difficult time. We appreciate that everyone has and will continue to respect their privacy during this period.

A private memorial service will take place in the ensuing days.

It's just the worst possible news, unthinkable really. Absolutely heartbreaking. Best wishes to the Stajans.
