Patrick Roy wasn't the only former player returning to a city where he played for a long time on Tuesday night. Matt Moulson was also making his first trip back to Long Island after being traded early this season by the Islanders.
And wouldn't you know it, Moulson scored a goal in the first period for his new team, the Minnesota Wild (by way of Buffalo in between). Of course he did.
Moulson rose up the ranks with the Islanders and became a very productive player for them before he was surprisingly traded. Moulson was a fan favorite and a guy that thought he would stay with the franchise for a long time to come. Obviously the Islanders saw the future differently.
The fans haven't forgotten, though. With the Islanders on the way to another dismal finish, the Isles faithful had nothing but love for Moulson after the goal. That's right, Islanders fans are cheering for a guy who just scored against them.
Huge ovation as Moulson is announced as goal-scorer.— Daniel Friedman (@DFriedmanOnNYI) March 18, 2014
If the Islanders are hoping Moulson might make his way back to New York this offseason as a free agent, the trade might have sent that ship sailing away.
