VIDEO: Flyers' Vincent Lecavalier hits all three posts on one shot

You're familiar with the game Three Bar, right? If not (it goes by other names, too), it's a game hockey players will play sometimes when the goalie didn't show up or there's no one else around for some pick-up hockey. The goal is to be the first player to hit all three posts, the two on the side and the cross bar.

Last night in the NHL, Vincent Lecavalier of the Philadelphia Flyers won Three Bar on one shot, which of course is every pick-up player's dream. Only problem is, you're not supposed to play Three Bar in a real NHL game where the goal is to put the puck in the net.

Of course, Lecavalier was actually trying to put the puck in the net, but was the victim of some really terrible luck on this play.

The Flyers broke into the Los Angeles Kings' zone, Lecavalier got to the net-front and had Jonathan Quick dead to rights after getting a pass. He took the shot from in tight. Right post, cross bar, left post. Clank… Clank… Clunk. Willie Mitchell was there to clear the loose puck from the crease.

Apparently the goal horn operator thought they were playing Three Bar as well because the horn sounded. The referees, however, knew that the puck had to cross the line and immediately waved off the goal, negating Lecavalier's Three Bar victory.

And even though he hit all three posts, Lecavalier doesn't even get credit for a shot on net. Posts don't even count for shots. Poor fella.

The Flyers ended up losing to the Kings in the real game, too, 3-2.

This was probably the most high-profile Three Bar event since Gordon Bombay went one-on-one with Wolf “The Dentist” Stansson in their epic showdown in D2: The Mighty Ducks.
