Henrik Zetterberg says goal remains to play if Wings make postseason

Slowly but surely the Detroit Red Wings are on the mend.

A couple of days after Pavel Datsyuk resumed skating, captain (and still the team's points leader) Henrik Zetterberg met with the media for the first time since the Olympics when he had to leave Sochi early to have back surgery and talked about his recovery.

While there remains no hope/expectation that Zetterberg will be back in time to help the Red Wings try and reach the postseason, if they do get in and make any bit of a run, Zetterberg just might be able to play.

As it stands now, he hasn't given up on playing again this season.

"That's the goal," Zetterberg said. "I want to play hockey again this year. Obviously that would be sometime in the playoffs.

"The rehab goes as planned. I've been doing a lot more the last two weeks. I'm going to just take it step by step. So far no hiccups, it just has to stay that way."

Zetterberg said he hopes to play in the playoffs so that's why he got a headstart on his beard (who knows if he was actually joking about that one or not).

Zetterberg was in the midst of a fantastic season with 48 points in 45 games before the back injury reared its ugly head in Sochi. Those points could come in pretty handy if the Wings are making any kind of playoff run. If they can get healthy they start to look like a pretty scary wild card team.
