Matt Duchene to miss 'roughly four weeks' for Avs with knee issue

The Colorado Avalanche got news of Matt Duchene's MRI on Monday and while it could have been a lot worse, it's hardly good. Duchene is going to miss roughly the next four weeks.

In the opening minute on Saturday night, Duchene and teammate Jamie McGinn collided with Duchene's left knee taking the worst of the blow. He gingerly made it off the ice and didn't return, an MRI scheduled to survey the damage. At least it's not an ACL tear or something like that but still rough for the Avs.

The question now is with a four-week timeline, will Duchene play again this season? The Avalanche are going to the playoffs, that much is guaranteed already. But they will assuredly face the defending champion Blackhawks and especially without Duchene, that's going to be a tall task.

With a four-week timeline, Duchene would miss the entire first round but perhaps he'll push for an earlier return if he can.

Duchene is Colorado's leading scorer this season with 70 points (23-47=70) in just 71 games. Obviously missing him is a pretty big deal.
