Montreal Canadiens defenseman Douglas Murray received a match penalty for the hit Tuesday night on Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Michael Kostka seen above, and he will face a hearing with the league office this week.
According to reports, the hearing will take place by phone Thursday morning at 11 EST and his punishment will be at maximum a five-game suspension. Per league rules, a player is suspended indefinitely after receiving a match penalty pending a hearing. Montreal next plays Friday against Ottawa.
From the video, it appears that Murray catches Kostka with an elbow before the 28-year-old goes down and hits his head on the ice. A stretcher was brought out, but Kostka was able to exit the ice under his own power.
As of Wednesday morning, there is no further word on Kostka's condition.
Murray, 34, has never been suspended by the NHL.
