The Detroit Red Wings had hopes that Pavel Datsyuk would make his long-awaited return from a knee injury on Wednesday. They'll have to wait just a little bit longer.

Datsyuk will not make his return to the ice when the Wings host Boston on Wednesday night, he's still not quite there. The issue doesn't seem to be the injury itself at this point but getting back into game shape.

All things considered, while the Wings would love to have him back it might be best not to get your welcome back game against a squad like Boston. That's not exactly easing in. Datsyuk missed a month of action after the Winter Classic with a knee injury before making a return so he could play in the Olympics. He played two games with the Wings after Sochi before they shut him down for a few weeks.

Making matters worse for the beat up Wings who are in the heart of a playoff battle is that they will also be without Daniel Alfredsson for the game. It's OK, though, as long as Gustav Nyquist can play the Wings have a chance.
