If the Chicago Blackhawks are going to get home-ice advantage for their first-round series with the Avalanche, they will have to do it without Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews.

Kane was already ruled out for the remainder of the regular season after suffering a knee injury a couple weeks ago and on Wednesday the Blackhawks made the same decision on Toews, who took a big hit from Brooks Orpik over the weekend.

It would seem to be more precautionary than anything. The Blackhawks have their playoff spot wrapped up and just have the home-ice to fight for and right now they are going to have a tough time doing that anyway. There's no need to try and push Toews back for only a couple of games at the end of the season.

To further underscore that it shouldn't be considered all that serious, Toews' original injury timeline was simply described as day to day. They just want to make sure their captain is ready to go for the playoffs.

Toews concludes his regular season with 28 goals and 40 assists in 76 games and playing a great two-way game that included winning 57.3 percent of his faceoffs.
