With the Toronto Maple Leafs holding on to a 3-2 lead in the third period against the Boston Bruins, starting goaltender Jonathan Bernier had to leave the game after suffering a lower-body injury.

The Bruins were on an offensive zone cycle when Patrice Bergeron went to the front of the net and battled for space with Leafs defenseman Paul Ranger. Ranger then pushed Bergeron and he happened to fall right onto the top of Bernier, whose legs were caught in an awkward position.

After staying down on the ice for a minute, he was helped off the ice by the training staff, unable to put any weight onto his left leg.

Of course it meant James Reimer replaced Bernier in the game, coming in right away to a Bruins power play (Ranger was given a minor for interference, insult to injury). The fans in Toronto immediately started cheering and chanting for Reimer, who has been much-maligned, especially of late.

This is the second time in a month Bernier was injured in a game and Reimer had to come in. The last time Bernier missed a few games and that's right when the Maple Leafs started an eight-game losing streak. With just four games after Thursday left, they'll hope that Bernier will be OK and if not, Reimer's go as the No. 1 will go a bit better this time around.

Reimer did give up a game-tying goal to Bergeron but the Maple Leafs won in overtime.
