Being a spectator at any major sporting event comes with some amount of risk. Objects can fly out from the playing surface and put fans in danger. It's always a little scarier when it is a child that gets hit like at a recent game between the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators.

Habs defenseman P.K. Subban was attempting to dump the puck in the zone, but his shot deflected up and out of play. It ended up striking an adult fan in the arm and his young son got caught in the ear on the deflection.

Subban appeared visibly concerned on the ice seeing a large crowd of people standing around the young boy who was eventually carried out. Though there was really nothing the Canadiens defenseman could do during the game, he did reach out to the fans that were hit with the puck.

The entire thing was caught by the cameras of Habs' reality show 24CH.

Subban personally called the father to check on the young fan and invite them to a future Canadiens game. He also met with the boy and signed the puck which Subban said is the one that came out and hit him.

It's always great to see pro athletes interact with fans in such a manner and Subban clearly wanted to make right something that really was an accident.

Subban also gave the young boy a nice story to tell his friends.

"What I'm going to do is I'm going to sign this puck for you," Subban told the awestruck youngster. "You can say my first game, P.K. hit me with a slap shot and I survived. So that's a pretty good deal."

Yes it is. Coolest kid on the playground now, I'd bet.

The reigning Norris Trophy winner also noted that he wants to be a little more careful when rimming the puck around the boards because he was scared by what happened to his new friend.

Even though it was a freak thing, Subban took a scary night for one young fan and replaced it with a memory that will last a lifetime and that's pretty special.
