With the Stanley Cup Playoffs set to begin Wednesday, Bovada revealed their odds for the postseason. The Boston Bruins, winner of the Presidents' Trophy as the NHL's regular-season champ and last year's Stanley Cup runner up, is the favorite to claim the top prize at the end of the postseason.
St. Louis is the top Western Conference contender according to the oddsmakers at 6/1, while the Penguins come in at 7/1, followed by the Blackhawks at 8/1.
It's rather interesting to see a pair of Eastern Conference teams as two of the top three considering just how tough the West was this year. That shows more in the top 10, however, as the three California teams might end up getting a lot of action with both the Sharks and Ducks at 9/1, followed by the Kings at 10/1. Six of the top 10 teams are from the Western Conference.
Here's the full list of odds to win the Stanley Cup via Bovada:
Boston Bruins: 7/2
St. Louis Blues: 6/1
Pittsburgh Penguins: 7/1
Chicago Blackhawks: 8/1
Anaheim Ducks: 9/1
San Jose Sharks: 9/1
Los Angeles Kings: 10/1
Colorado Avalanche: 14/1
Detroit Red Wings: 20/1
Philadelphia Flyers: 20/1
Tampa Bay Lightning: 25/1
Dallas Stars 50/1
Interestingly enough, the oddsmakers don't appear to be big believers in the Colorado Avalanche, winners of the Central Division. The advanced stats analysts aren't either.
Bovada also posted odds for each potential matchup in the Stanley Cup Final, which could be of some interest to fans post-realignment.
The Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings, who met in the Western Conference semifinals last year, Bovada gives them a 50/1 chance of meeting in the Cup Final. As for the Wings and former bloody rival Colorado, the oddsmakers have a potential Stanley Cup meeting of 80/1.
Bovada has set a potential rematch of last year's Stanley Cup Final between the Blackhawk and Bruins at 9/1.
With so many intriguing first-round matchups, it should be interesting to see how this all plays out. It's always nice to get an idea of what Vegas is thinking, though.
