Could you have asked for a better Game 1 of the series between rivals Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues? Nope. Sure couldn't. There were plenty of great plays, but in the first overtime period between the two clubs, Maxim Lapierre made what could go down as the save of the game for the Blues. Lapierre, as I'm sure you're aware, is not a goaltender.
With the Blackhawks rushing down the ice, Jonathan Toews turned to find a wide-open Kris Versteeg. Brandon Saad was also charging to the net, but ended up pushing Lapierre into the Blues' net. As the puck came to Versteeg, he immediately let go a hard shot. That's where Lapierre comes in.

Still trying to recover in his own net, Lapierre somehow managed to square up to the shot and blocked it off the line. Ryan Miller was well behind in his reaction to Toews' deceptive pass.
It might have been mostly by luck and some help from Saad, but without that stop, the Blues are hanging their heads after losing a hard-fought game. Instead, they survived the first overtime and are headed to another thanks to the well-placed Lapierre.
