Professional sports are meant to entertain. Over the years, teams have found new and exciting ways to make sure fans get their money's worth every time they come to the arena. One of the big things every team puts a particular emphasis on is their pre-game entertainment in the arena to get fans pumped up for the game ahead.

The latest innovation in pre-game entertainment is the use of high-tech projection systems that turns the playing surface into a rather large screen. The Tampa Bay Lightning are the latest team to employ this new technology with rather incredible results.

The Lightning have already made huge upgrades to the Tampa Times Forum with a revamped organ, gigantic video screen and the unique Tesla coils that produce lightning-like plasma. The high-tech projection is another new wrinkle added to make the Lightning's in-game experience among the best in the NHL.

The video above offers a look at the massive show that also included live DJs turning the ice surface into a large dance-club display, a young hockey player with a glowing hockey stick to amp up the crowd, gigantic images from the team's history and the largest jersey name bars you've ever seen flying across the ice.

This new system was recently employed by the Halifax Moosheads in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with similarly breathtaking results. Technology is neat.
