If the Philadelphia Flyers have a potential goalie drama building, they won't have to worry about it for at least another game; Steve Mason won't play in Game 3.

Mason missed the first two games of the series in against the Rangers with an upper-body injury. He wasn't even on hand for Game 1 and before Game 2 he practiced but wasn't able to play. With Game 3 heading back to Philadelphia, the Flyers hoped Mason could be ready to go.

But like the first two games he won't dress, leaving Ray Emery to get the start.

Coming into the series this would have seemed like a major issue for the Flyers but after seeing Emery in the first two games, particularly in Game 2 on Sunday afternoon, the Flyers have to be feeling much better about this prospect now.

Emery didn't have a strong regular season at all with a .903 save percentage in 28 games but his two starts in New York yielded a respectable .913 save percentage, a number that doesn't quite capture how strong he looked for the final 50 minutes on Sunday.

As Mason noted, there's no reason right now to try and rush back and potentially suffer a setback in his injury recovery. Emery has given the Flyers time to be patient, especially with the series even at 1-1 right now. If he's able to turn in another solid performance, it gives Craig Berube a tough but good question to have moving forward.

Mason had an up-and-down season with the Flyers (he had four months with a save percentage above .927, two below .900) that yielded a save percentage of .917 and a 33-18-2 record.

Game 3 is Tuesday in Philadelphia.
