Andrew Shaw has been an important forward for the Chicago Blackhawks in the last two postseasons. With four points through the first series this year and his ability to get under other opponents' skin, Shaw makes an impact in a variety of ways. That's why what happened to him in Game 1 of the Blackhawks' second-round series against the Minnesota Wild could be cause for concern.

Shaw was injured after taking a hard check from Wild defenseman Clayton Stoner. He did not return and according to the Blackhawks will not return, though the nature of the injury was not disclosed.

Shaw appeared to be favoring his right leg after taking the hit along the boards. He immediately grimaced after the check and went straight to the Blackhawks bench. Here's a closer look at the hit in GIF form via @myregularface:

It looks like Stoner's knee may have made contact with Shaw's right leg, but that doesn't appear to be an instance of an intentional knee-on-knee. It's pretty clear Stoner was going for the full body check as opposed to leading with his knee.

If this injury is serious, the Hawks lose a versatile forward who plays in a variety of situations including on the Blackhawks' power play.

He averaged more than 18 minutes a game in Chicago's series against the Blues, registering two goals and two assists. Shaw also was deadly against the Wild last year in the first-round meeting between the two clubs as he posted four points in five games.

With Chicago having scratched Kris Versteeg in consecutive games, he would seem to be the likely replacement for Shaw if he is out long term, with Jeremy Morin another option to draw into the lineup. It will be an interesting situation worth montoring.
