After the 7-2 drubbing at the hands of the New York Rangers, the Montreal Canadiens may end up regretting their bet with Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon. Yes, through their Twitter account, the Canadiens made a jersey bet with New York native Jimmy Fallon on the outcome of the Eastern Conference finals with his hometown Rangers.
So what are the terms? Well perpetually exclaiming mascot Youppi! is involved.
From the Canadiens website:
Fallon, the former star of Saturday Night Live and current host of NBC's The Tonight Show -- taped at the famed studios situated at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York -- confirmed he will wear a Canadiens jersey during one of his monologues in the event Montreal bests the Rangers in their series that starts Saturday afternoon. In turn, the Canadiens will change their @CanadiensMTL Twitter avatar to a photo of Fallon of his choosing for one day, plus outfit their famed mascot, Youppi!, in a Rangers jersey and post 10 different pictures of him walking around Montreal showing it off.
Here's the proof of an agreement of terms:
If it's said on Twitter, it's as good as it being signed in blood as far as I'm concerned.
I want to know if Youppi! signed off on this, though. Seems like he has a lot to lose and I'm not sure if he can even type with those big fuzzy hands of his.
With all due respect to the Habs, it would be pretty fun to see Youppi!, one of the best mascots in all of sports, face the shame of walking around town in opposing colo(u)rs. The reactions from the public would make it more than worth it.
So after the Game 1 rout, Youppi! may be getting a little nervous. Good thing it's a best-of-seven. Bonne chance, Youppi!.
