Russia might have had a disappointing showing at the Olympics in Sochi this year but they made up for it in a small way with a dominant showing at the IIHF World Championships.

The Russians, with loads of NHL talent including Alex Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin and Sergei Bobrovsky, completed a perfect run on Sunday by defeating Finland 5-2 to win the World Championship gold medal in Belarus.

Ovechkin and Malkin each scored in the victory as Finland had a steady stream to the penalty box, putting Pekka Rinne in a tough spot in net against such a skilled team. Even with head coach Oleg Znarok watching from the press box after being suspended for his throat slash gesture, they looked to be no worse for the wear against the Finns.

How good were the Russians in this tournament? They never even went to overtime and outscored opponents by a whopping 42-10 margin, averaging 1.00 goals against per game throughout. They had the most talented team from top to bottom and it showed.

It was a nice rebound for Russia, which was disappointed by a medalless showing at last year's worlds. It was Russia's second gold medal in the past three years at the event and the fourth time since 2008. The worlds might not mean much in North America but it's obviously a big deal for the Russians, so big that even Vladimir Putin was in attendance.

Earlier on Sunday, Sweden defeated the Czech Republic by a final score of 3-0 to win the bronze medal.
