One of their graybeards, Zidlicky seems to have found a very nice niche in New Jersey since he was cast away by the Wild in 2011-12. He is coming off a season where he had 12 goals and 30 assists in 81 games and now in 151 games with the Devils the 37-year-old has 18 goals and 51 assists.
"He wanted to come back and obviously we wanted him back," GM Lou Lamoriell said (via Rich Chere). "He had an outstanding year. He was the key ingredient to our power play. He was a 1-2 punch with Jagr."
The price of the deal is pretty reasonable too:
Should add on Zidlicky deal: while it's $3 M in base salary, he can earn another $1 M in games played bonus if he plays 25 games.— Pierre LeBrun (@Real_ESPNLeBrun) June 3, 2014
For a guy who was one of the top-scoring defensemen available this summer, that's certainly not bad at all, especially with that potential bonus money being deferred another year should he receive it.
