Justin Williams has developed quite the reputation for his Game 7 performances but he had a pretty good one in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final too, a showing that included an overtime winner.

The assist on the play technically went to Mike Richards, who passed it to a wide-open Williams in the slot, but he should thanks Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi, who had a nightmare of a play.

The Rangers seemed to take control of the puck with Girardi skating it backward while surveying the ice in front of him but when he went to pass the puck he whiffed and then fell down under the pressure of the forecheck. Finally the puck made it to the point where Richards trapped it and because Girardi had fallen, there was nobody to mark Williams.

He knew what to do from there, beating Henrik Lundqvist with a rocket of a shot high to the blocker side. You can't put that on Lundqvist at all, though, it was just a brutal giveaway and one that Girardi will want to forget in a hurry.

Though at this point it might be about more than just forgetting it for Girardi. Frankly, it's been a brutal postseason for the Rangers' top-pairing defenseman. He and partner Ryan McDonagh had an especially tough time early in the series with Pittsburgh and then this gaffe in OT wasn't the only bad play on the night for Girardi. Certainly he's had better nights.

It wasn't easy by any stretch but the Kings take the early lead in the series thanks to Williams -- maybe we'll just call him Mr. Playoffs? -- with some help from Girardi.
