The New York Rangers have needed some bounces to go their way while trying to stay alive in the Stanley Cup Final in Game 4. They got one early in the third period by way of Benoit Pouliot getting just enough of John Moore's point shot to deflect it into the net.

The Rangers had been generating numerous chances on the power play, but Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick was stopping just about everything in front. It was going to take one of those “dirty goals” to get one past him it seemed. That's what the Rangers got.

As time expired on New York's power play, Moore unleashed a shot from the point. Pouliot was drifting back toward the Kings' net at just the right time. He got his stick up high (but not too high) to get a piece of Moore's shot that may have gone wide otherwise. The puck fluttered a bit and changed direction just enough before going underneath the crossbar and in to give the Rangers an important 1-0 lead to start the game.

The goal was reviewed briefly for a high stick, but Pouliot's stick was clearly below the goal line as it never seemed to raise above his waist.

As we've seen often enough, leads are not often safe in this postseason, but the Rangers needed some positivity early in the game after being shut out and having some awful luck in Game 3. They'll hope for some more of the same in trying to extend the series.
