The New York Rangers looked pretty much cooked through much of the first half of Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. Trailing the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 on the road in the latter half of the second period, the Rangers got a power play, which hasn't necessarily been a good thing for them this series. Coming into Friday night's contest they had scored just once in 17 tries on the man advantage.

The Rangers seemed to forget about those woes at a most appropriate time, however.

Ryan McDonagh, the solid puck-moving defenseman has been a major point producer for New York this postseason and does a lot of strong work on the power play. So with Dwight King sitting in the box for a high-stick on Mats Zuccarello, the Rangers' top defenseman helped the team get the game even.

With the Rangers moving the puck around the zone, McDonagh got a pass on the right side. Instead of dishing it right away, he showed good patience as he found Chris Kreider standing on the doorstep. Through a sea of sticks and an outstretched Jonathan Quick, McDonagh hit Kreider right on the tape. All Kreider had to do was tap it in, which he did with authority.

All of the sudden, the game was tied and the Rangers had life. That pass from McDonagh gave him his team-leading 17th point of the playoffs.

That was just a terrific power play when the Rangers needed it most. Minutes later, Brian Boyle scored to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead to head into the third period to flip Game 5 on its head.
