Of all the stars and all the clutch scorers for the Los Angeles Kings, the Stanley Cup clinching goal was scored by young defenseman Alec Martinez. Seems the kid has a knack for this as he also ended the Western Conference Final with an OT goal.
This one is far bigger though. Coming off a hard and low shot by Jeff Carter, the puck bounced off Henrik Lundqvist and right onto Martinez's stick. He was alone in front and simply couldn't miss from there. His shot went just inside the left post and ended one of the most thrilling games in a long, long time.
The 26-year-old from Rochester Hills, Mich., scored five goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, three of them were game-winners. But few would have picked Martinez with the way OT was going and the chance after chance after chance guys like Justin Williams and Jeff Carter had.
There were a lot of chances for the New York Rangers to end it as well, but in the end it was the Kings lifting the Stanley Cup thanks to the effort of Alec Martinez.
