Dale Weise was an unwanted player in a couple of organizations but he found a bit of a home in Montreal, especially after a strong postseason showing, a home he will stay in for the next two seasons.

Indeed, on Tuesday the Canadiens re-signed Weise for two seasons and $2 million (total). He was scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer.

"The acquisition of Dale Weise contributed to the success of our team this season," Habs GM Marc Bergevin said. "A young veteran with a lot of character, Dale is an intense player with a strong work ethic. We're very pleased to have him as part of our team moving forward."

Weise was traded to the Canadiens this past season for essentially a bag of pucks from the Canucks. He saw his role slightly increase and he rewarded the Canadiens with three goals and an assist in 17 games. He continued that production in the postseason when he had a few very noticeable performances that saw him total three goals and four assists.

So in 33 games with the Canadiens, Weise had six goals, five assists, a pace close to 30 points over a full 82 games. As a fourth-line guy whose career high is 16 points, that shouldn't really be expected but it wouldn't appear the Habs do anticipate much more than what Weise has given. With the fit there appeared to be in Montreal, it's a pretty nice deal for a guy who can skate pretty well but also mix it up if need be.
