The San Jose Sharks began the offseason by bidding farewell to Dan Boyle, the start of an offseason that promised big changes after another crushing early exit, but on Tuesday the team re-signed a couple of players.

Both enforcer Mike Brown and backup goaltender Alex Stalock were slated to become free agents in two weeks but GM Doug Wilson re-signed both players to two-year contract extensions.

Here are the salaries per Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area.

Stalock got his first taste as a backup goalie in the NHL this season, playing 24 games for the Sharks behind Antti Niemi. He performed very well, too, going 12-5-2 with a .932 save percentage and a 1.87 GAA. It makes perfect sense that the Sharks would be more than happy to keep Stalock around as the backup for a couple more seasons.

Brown is a bit more of a head-scratcher, though. While he has a mighty fine (award-winning even) mustache, he's not exactly a productive player. The Sharks landed Brown from Edmonton early in the season and he produced two goals and three assists, bringing his career togal to 31 points in 337 games.

Known more for his pugilism than anything, Brown averaged just 7:22 of ice time per game and was a minus-10 on a team that had one of the best goal differentials in the NHL. He also had a 46.1 percent Corsi rating, indicating the possession-heavy Sharks were seeing more shots against with him on the ice than for.

Still, even if the role is diminishing, some teams still value guys who can punch and play that energy role on the fourth line.
