The Vancouver Canucks snagged one of the last remaining scorers in free agency on Wednesday night by reaching a deal with forward Radim Vrbata.

The deal is only for two years but for the shorter term it cost the Canucks a little more as the deal is for $10 million, or $5 million per season against the cap.

Now the Canucks have a winger who could join the Sedins on the top line who should be able to finish a few more goals for the twins. It could really benefit Vrbata's game, too. If not then he'll be well suited on the second line to provide a consistent level of scoring.

The 33-year-old is coming off a 20-goal season for the Coyotes and hit a career high of 35 goals in 2011-12 to go with 27 assists. A bit of a late bloomer, Vrbata really hit his stride in Arizona and earned himself a raise in free agency.

This deal almost has a prove-it feel to it. The Canucks aren't locked in for long but it could really pay off and if it does, the Canucks could get one more contract out of Vrbata if everything goes well. The Canucks have a bit of work to do but with a guy who can finish like Vrbata, it helps them keep an outside shot at returning to the playoffs next season.

According to Craig Morgan of Fox Sports Arizona, the Coyotes made an effort to keep Vrbata and the Canadiens among other teams were also interested but the Canucks upped the ante with the $5 million per season price tag.
