CALGARY, Alberta -- Roman Turek and Jarome Iginla helped the Calgary Flames end their winless streak on home ice.
Turek made 30 saves and Iginla had a goal and an assist to lead the Calgary Flames to their first home win of the season, 3-0 over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night.
Toni Lydman also had a goal and an assist as the Flames won for the first time in six home games.
The Flames put Iginla back on a line with center Craig Conroy. Along with Martin Gelinas on the left wing, the unit accounted for both of Calgary's first-period goals as the Flames took an early 2-0 lead.
"Jarome's been working his backside off and things are going to start going in for him," Flames coach Greg Gilbert said.
Chris Drury scored his fourth goal of the season in the second period.
Buffalo is winless in its last four games with three games left on its six-game road trip.
Turek got his first shutout of the year and 21st of his career.
"He was great for them tonight," Sabres winger Jochen Hecht said. "He made some good saves and pretty much kept all the rebounds to himself."
His best stop came early in the second when he sprawled to make an acrobatic stop off Hecht on a rebound. With the puck lying in the crease and Hecht about to score, Flames defenseman Denis Gauthier flattened Hecht and knocked the puck away.
"Roman had some very timely saves," Iginla said. "We've always got a lot of confidence in him back there but you can tell on some nights that he's going to be unbeatable and that's a great feeling."
Drury's shorthanded goal came with just 2:37 left in the second on a spectacular rush.
The Flames' leading scorer picked up a loose puck at the Calgary blueline and raced away. Despite being stopped by goalie Martin Biron on his initial deke, he managed to reach back and tap the rebound in as he went past the goal.
Notes
- Calgary rookie RW Chuck Kobasew returned to the lineup after being a scratch the last three games. Among the healthy Flames not dressed was C Marc Savard.
- Five home games without a win to start the season matched the longest such streak in franchise history.
- The Flames are five points behind their pace from one year ago, when they were 7-2-0-1 through the first 10 games.
