CALGARY -- Michael Cammalleri and Andre Roy scored to help the Calgary Flames down the Phoenix Coyotes 3-1 in an NHL preseason game Thursday.
Matthew Lombardi also scored for the Flames (2-1-0), while Miikka Kiprusoff and Curtis McElhinney shared the goaltending duties. Viktor Tikhonov, a first-round pick (28th overall) by the Coyotes in the 2008 NHL Draft, scored the lone goal for Phoenix.
The Coyotes, who also lost 3-2 to the Flames on Wednesday night in Winnipeg, are now winless in three exhibition games.
They were playing without the likes of goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, defenseman Ed Jovanovski and forwards Olli Jokinen, Shane Doan, Peter Mueller and highly touted rookie Kyle Turris.
Lombardi opened the scoring during a Calgary power play at 9:37 of the first when he pounced on a rebound and deposited the puck in the net past Phoenix goalie Mikael Tellqvist while taking a hit from defenseman Logan Stephenson.
Tellqvist was under fire throughout the entire man advantage as he stopped a pair of close-in shots off the stick of Calgary captain Jarome Iginla and a point blast by defenseman Adrian Aucoin before surrendering the goal to Lombardi.
In his first game with the Flames, Cammalleri redirected a pass from Iginla into the Phoenix goal early in the second period. Roy then spotted a loose puck behind Tellqvist and alertly deposited it into the wide-open net.
Kiprusoff stopped all nine shots he faced in his first action of the preseason before being replaced in net midway through the second by McElhinney, who finished with 13 saves.
In the third, Tikhonov made a nice move around Calgary defenseman John Negrin before firing a shot just inside the far post behind McElhinney.
The Flames will play their fourth exhibition game in as many days when they play host to the Florida Panthers on Friday night at the Saddledome.
