Canucks stay perfect in preseason after shootout win over Sharks

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Mason Raymond started Vancouver's comeback early in the third period and finished it with the shootout winner as the Canucks remained perfect in the preseason with a 4-3 victory over San Jose on Wednesday.

Raymond, Alexander Edler and Tanner Glass scored to help Vancouver overcome a 2-0 deficit in the third period. But Rob Blake scored his second goal on a power-play deflection to tie it with 1:09 left.

After Joe Pavelski and Edler traded goals in the shootout, Raymond put Vancouver back ahead in the third round with a spinning backhand deke around Evgeni Nabokov, and Roberto Luongo sealed the win by stacking the pads on Ferriero on San Jose's final attempt.

Luongo made 24 saves in regulation and stopped two of three in the shootout as the Canucks improved to 6-0-0 in the preseason despite only dressing half of their NHL regulars.

Benn Ferriero and Kent Huskins also scored, Joe Thornton had two assists, and Nabokov made 26 saves for San Jose, which iced top forwards Thornton and Patrick Marleau but not Dany Heatley, who has only played twice since being acquired from Ottawa in a multiplayer trade Sept. 12. Heatley, a five-time All-Star who twice scored 50 goals in a season, is pointless in two games with the Sharks.

Ferriero took Heatley's spot on the top line with Thornton and Devin Setoguchi, and opened the scoring 1:54 into the second period after Thornton's shot hit his leg en route to the net. That left Luongo down and Ferriero with an open net, giving the rookie out of Boston College three goals in four games.

Raymond started the comeback by banging in a rebound 7:22 into the third. Edler tied it six minutes later with a point shot through traffic, and Glass gave the Canucks the lead.

Manny Malhotra, who was in San Jose's training camp on a tryout, made his Sharks debut after signing a one-year free-agent contract earlier in the day.
